HOA Board resolves Republic trash can issues

August 20, 2024

Dear TrailMark Residents,

As many of you know, there have been some issues today with Republic Services trash and recycle pick up. I’m pleased to inform you that after 9 phone calls back and forth with the General Manager, and our account manager at Republic Services, we have come to an agreement to remedy the mishaps that happened today. Our Board spent the entire day working with Republic to solve these issues for the good of our neighborhood.

There was a miscommunication where Republic Services told the HOA that multiple cans would be picked up on the weekly trash pick-up days. That is not the case, as our contract is written that each home will only be allowed one trash and one recycle can of contents to be collected on trash days. Due to this, the HOA and Republic Services worked together to try and find the best solution for all, while keeping our homeowners in mind.

We have agreed that owners needing two trash cans (total) can follow the directions in the Republic Services letter by September 16th to communicate their request for one additional trash can. After this date, Republic Services will deliver the additional cans to the specified addresses. Please read the enclosed letter from Republic Services for the corrective action that requires your immediate attention.

The HOA is estimating that 100 homes will request this additional can, which will cost the HOA an additional $4/month/home totaling an additional $4,800/year. The extra can will not be charged back to your residence or your account as the HOA will pay this expense. This estimation reduces the amount of savings the HOA had negotiated and communicated at the May Board meeting.

If more homeowners have this need, the savings will continue to be reduced. Unfortunately, there is no other flexibility as to the ratio of trash and recycling that can be offered… some need more trash cans, some don’t want recycling, etc. Fortunately, we’ve found a happy ground to satisfy the needs of our neighbors.

Thank you for your patience,
